All NHS Trusts in England that provide maternity services have carried out a survey in 2007 to find out what women think about the maternity care they have received, as part of a national programme led by the Healthcare Commission. The results of this survey for County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust can be viewed here. |
The Healthcare Commission review of maternity services explored how organisations in the NHS are improving the way in which they deliver maternity services. Twenty-five indicators grouped under the three themes of clinical focus, women centred care and efficiency and capability were chosen as the basis for the assessment.
Trusts are placed into the four categories - least well performing, fair performing, better performing and best performing. The review is based on relative assessments and the overall assessment of least well performing implies that a trust is lagging behind other trusts in some key delivery areas. It does not in itself suggest unacceptable practice.
