Home Birth RatesClick on your region to obtain home birth rates for your local area. For England & Wales home birth rates have been derived from information collected at birth registration provided to BirthChoiceUK by the Office for National Statistics. Similar data has been provided by the General Register Office of Northern Ireland. Because of the nature of the source data these rates are considered to be very accurate. A home birth for these purposes has been defined as a birth taking place at a private residence which is the usual residence of the mother. It does not include births taking place at other private residences. It includes both planned and unplanned home births. The General Register Office of Scotland has been able to supply BirthChoiceUK with the non-institution births by administrative area. This includes both home births and births in transit, thus these figures only provide an upper limit to the home birth rate in Scotland. |
